Improving compression control in oil and gas with Beijer Electronics

Flogistix by Flowco is a market-leading specialist in compression and automation systems for the upstream and midstream oil and gas sector. The company partners with operators to boost production performance and extend well life, delivering engineered systems and services that ensure reliable, long-term asset performance across a rapidly growing field fleet.

Supporting field-based equipment

Flogistix equipment is used in applications like vapor recovery and gas compression, where machines operate continuously in the field under direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and hazardous conditions.

Operators rely on local displays to monitor performance, make adjustments, and troubleshoot issues, especially in vapor recovery applications where gas is captured, compressed, and redirected into pipelines, making emissions control a key part of daily success.

Adapting to more demanding applications

When developing the Logix PLC control panel, the Beijer Electronics HMI was chosen for its high operating temperature and harsh environment ratings. As the system capability grew, the HMI selection also evolved, taking advantage of Beijer's newer offerings with better daylight visibility, extreme heat tolerance, and other unique features.

With in-depth experience using human-machine interfaces, they sought hardware that could meet their rugged performance requirements while remaining flexible enough to grow with their future needs.

Designed for real operating conditions

Flogistix equipment is installed out in the field, usually in remote areas with no shade or cover, where units are exposed to direct sunlight, high heat, changing seasons, and varying weather conditions around the clock.

Because of this, the equipment needs to continue operating without any extra protection, even in harsh, extreme, or hazardous conditions.

“When we place our equipment on a machine, we expect it to see 130°F temperatures, direct sunlight, and Class I Division 2 environments,” Flogistix explained. “Those are go or no-go requirements for us.”

The Beijer Electronics X2 extreme HMI platform not only met those requirements, but gave them a clear display through it all.

Beijer has some of the best graphics of the products we've seen, they added.

Strengthening a core differentiator

For Flogistix, automation is a big part of how their equipment performs in the field, especially when compared to their competitors.
“Our automation is what sets us apart,” they explained. “We can take the same type of compression equipment and get better performance because of how we run it and how we control it.”

Their systems are used across upstream and midstream applications, where performance and control directly impact how equipment runs in the field. Beijer Electronics HMIs became part of that initiative by giving Flogistix a consistent and reliable way to monitor and interact with their systems across their fleet.

Today, Flogistix operates more than 3,000 machines, with the majority using Beijer Electronics HMIs, while the remaining legacy units are awaiting their eventual upgrade.

Exciting plans for the future of Flogistix

Flogistix is now taking their systems a step further with a smarter, custom AI-driven process that predicts machine and unit issues before they happen. By combining decades of sensor data with machine learning, they’re able to forecast performance, identify component-level wear, and guide technicians toward the right solution at the right time, effectively cutting out guesswork, reducing unnecessary service calls, and minimizing downtime.

This goes to show another example of how Flogistix not only understands their equipment inside and out, but continues to position themselves as a leader in the industry by taking performance to the next level, again and again.
